A.K.A How to spot a Fake!
Now a lot of us know that Arpakasso/Alpacasso are very well known and sought after adorable plushies so much so now that companies have made knock offs. As some people don't mind getting fakes, others do! Here is a quick guide from Here. Though, I had to fix it up a bit since some of her links weren't working anymore.
1. Series
Arpakasso come in many different series, usually 2-3 styles being released in a month. The first thing you want to know when looking at your potential alpaca is which series it is. There are some series that get faked more than others, for example: Macaroon series, School Kids, Gorgeous, and Animal Hats. If the listing (eBay especially) doesn't provide the series name, ask the seller! If they don't know, it might be best to steer clear. (My example down below.)
2. Tags
As a collector, I personally prefer my alpacas to have their tags. Every series of alpaca gets it's own special tags: a cloth tag and a paper one. On the adult size arpakas, the cloth tag is sewn on the bum:
On the kids and baby size alpacas (distinguished by their ears and legs), the tag is found on the right side of their belly:
The 8cm keystrap alpacas are the only exception to this rule. Their tags are attatched to the elastic on their head. If there is no picture of the tags or there is only a stock image provided, ask the seller for a picture!
From PrincessGlowstick:
Here's a wonderful example on ebay that almost got me!
Fake Arpakasso
Looks pretty legit, right? It honestly made me so happy that I finally found the girl from the Eden Series that I wanted so bad! But upon looking closer:
Doesn't come with the correct tags, like this one from Rosy's Garden. If anything else, if you're not sure if your arpakasso is authentic, ask us! There are plenty of collectors here on the forum or over at tumblr. Here are a few I can give on the top of my head:
Lovely Arpakasso
Moccoe
Rosy's Garden
All of whom are very sweet and wonderful people! They'll be happy to help!
